A steep price increase is expected for tantalum. Tantalum’s main end-user application is capacitors which are in turn used in a plethora of applications such as cell phones, DVD players, personal computers, digital cameras, gaming platforms, LCD monitors, wireless devices, telephone switch boards and computer networks. This much increased new price for tantalum ore is expected to be effective in January 2009 when their current ore supply contracts conclude.
